The Government of West Bengal, through the Directorate of Child Rights & Trafficking, has invited applications for the post of Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in seven districts. The recruitment will be carried out as per the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, its amendments, and the Model Rules of 2016 and 2022.

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit (as on 20 May 2025)

  • Minimum: 35 years
  • Maximum: 65 years

Educational Qualification:

The applicant must possess a degree in any of the following disciplines:

  • Child Psychology
  • Psychiatry
  • Law
  • Social Work
  • Sociology
  • Human Health
  • Education
  • Human Development
  • Special Education for Differently Abled Children

AND
Must have either:

  • At least 7 years of active involvement in health, education, or welfare activities related to children,
    OR
  • Be a practicing professional in any of the above fields.

Other Conditions

Applicants must:

  • Submit an affidavit in Form 49, declaring compliance with Section 27(4A) of the JJ Act.
  • Not be associated with any NGO or body receiving foreign funds.
  • Not be involved with any organization that might cause conflict of interest.
  • Be able to devote adequate time, as the Committee will sit on all working days for at least six hours daily, like a Magistrate Court.
  • Not be associated directly or indirectly with any Child Care Institution.
  • Not hold any political office during tenure.

Tenure:

  • Eligible for a maximum of two terms, which must not be continuous.

Allowance

Chairpersons will receive:

  • Sitting allowance, travel allowance, and other benefits as prescribed by the State Government.
  • A minimum of ₹2,000 per sitting.
